First Petal [Video/action for New Bark Town]

[There's a bit of a clatter when the video turns on, and the view is a bit skewed; a sideways shot of the very same house all non-Rockets wake up in. A pair of black and red boots can be seen pacing back and forth, their owner reaching down and grabbing a few other things that had spilled from their bag, along with the 'gear.]

Miss, I don't-- [The owner of the fear - a young girl it seems - halts as "Mom" continues to drone on with her usual spiel, a slight whine in her voice as she impatiently bounces on the balls of her feet.]

Miss, I really don't think you-- I mean, I really appreciate this, I guess!! But you're not really... [Sigh. She's not really listening is she? Guess she has no choice...]

[The words rush out all in one breath, and with a flurry of footsteps, the girl is gone.

... Without her Pokegear.

Luckily, a moment later a Houndour appears, grabbing the device in its mouth and running off. The camera jostles around a bit but stops soon enough, with the girl - dressed all in red and black, wrapped in a hooded red cape, and black hair cut short - finally in full view.]

What- yikes!

[She jumps back, shock on her face and a small bit of fear in her eyes. After a moment, though, she leans a little closer.]

You... you're not a Grimm, are you?

[A muffled bark comes from the Houndour holding the gear, and it's only then that the girl notices the device and quickly grabs it. After giving it a quick once-over to determine what exactly it is, she turns it in what she hopes is the right direction...!]

Uh... mayday, mayday! SOS! Some other distress call! .... Help? Geez, I don't know what I should be saying here...

[FOCUS. Okay. Breathe in, breathe out.]

T-This is Ruby Rose, leader of Team RWBY, and I have no idea where I am! This, uh... this isn't Vale, is it?

[As her adrenaline starts to fade, Ruby's shoulders slump.]

I... I gotta get back. Like, right now! There are a whole lot of people that need help...

[Guess what, Dave? Since you got here after Penny, you're... probably going to wait a bit on that response. And you get the honor of seeing this poor kid immediately post-cry, so... don't mind the reddened eyes or the way she's scrubbing at her face to clear it up a bit.]

I, uh... I'm not even going to pretend to say I understood any of that.

[That's okay, because in all likelihood, he heard that "RUBY!" right through the walls and had an inkling what was going on.]

That's okay, it's kind of hard to absorb anything the first day, anyway.

[Is there a tactful way to ask if she's okay, should he just ignore the fact she was obviously crying, ummm...]

Soooo I guess you are Penny's friend Ruby? She talks about you a lot.

[Whoops. While it's not the wrong thing to say, the mention of Penny hits a still-bleeding wound in Ruby's heart, and tears quickly start forming in her eyes again. This time, at least, she has the sense to reach up again and wipe at them, to try and cut off her crying before it begins.

Gosh, she has so many questions. Even after talking to Penny, she's having a hard time processing everything. But there's one thing she has to make sure of before she unleashes the metaphorical flood.]

Is she... has she been okay here?

[Oh god. Crying girl. MAYDAY, MAYDAY, ALL HANDS ON DECK, ABORT MISSION, ABORT!]

I--I mean, yeah, I've, like...tried to take care of her, sort of, not in like a creeptastic bossy way but we've been traveling together, so. And she's way better than me at Pokémon, anyway, she's really got her shit together as a battler and I kind of don't totally get it intuitively, and. And, yeah. She's been okay.

...Look, uh. Are you okay? I can, I can make this channel private if you need some space.

[It's probably the heaviest thing Ruby's ever said. She always puts on a brave face, she always focuses on the matter at hand and helping who needs to be helped, but with everything that's happened in such a short time... it's hard to keep doing that.]

Did someone... [She hesitates, because even if what had happened happend in front of thousands of people... Ruby still made a promise. She wasn't going to say a word before Penny says it's okay.] Did someone... help her, when she first got here? Are there people from Atlas here?

[He doesn't like the sound of what Ruby's not saying.]

I don't think there's anybody from Atlas here, no. When she turned up, I think she and I were both the only people here from our worlds. I was probably one of the first people she talked to...? She seemed fine, I didn't know she needed help or anything besides not having enough cash on her when we finally met up in person at the store...

[Ruby should feel relieved, but honestly... it just worries her even more. What in the world is going on here? She's certain what she saw was real, there was no way it wasn't. Not with the way Pyrrha was acting. It's not like what happened with Yang, or what Velvet said happened to Coco...

But then what was going on here?]

... Thanks. Really. For helping her, I mean.

I--you're welcome? Or, I guess Penny's welcome. She's a sweet kid, and she helped me out when I was having a tough time a couple months ago, too, so I don't mind.

So, look, you seem like you're experiencing what we in the industry call a really shit day. Penny was the first real friend I made here, so. [She's important to him. He glosses over all that difficult feelings stuff with a shake of his head.] I'm gonna see what I can do to get you transport from New Bark to here so you can see Penny as soon as possible.

[It sounds like something bad went down, so he can't be sure.]

Hey, don't thank me yet, I gotta ask one of my other friends if she can do it because Wart's not so good with the teleporting yet. But she did it for me back in November, so I figure the chances are pretty good.

[He reaches for his Gear and turns it so that Wart's in the frame. He's sitting against the wall, working on maintaining his elbow blades, and he looks up only to shake his head and return to his task, head ducked a little more.]

[OKAY THE NAME IS STILL LAME BUT SHE CAN'T HELP BUT LOOK AMAZED AT THAT THING]

Whoa, that's so cool!!! Like some kinda fairy-knight!!

[Wart tugs his bandanna up over his face at the attention, and Dave can't help but chuckle.]

That's actually pretty much exactly what he is. Real brave and noble, aren't you, buddy?

[Wart actually gets up and leaves. Good-bye, farewell, auf wiedersehen, adieu. Dave laughs more honestly.]

Come on, dude, I'm just telling it like it is! Man, I love that guy.

[As someone who's getting used to dealing with violent, bloodthirsty monsters, this is quite a good change.]

Are there a lot of things like that? Do they all look that cool???

[SHE'S SEEN ALL SORTS OF COOL SWORDS, BUT SHE'S ONLY SEEN SWORDS FLOAT ONCE BEFORE. And, well, they weren't even really floating on their own, Penny just controlled them on wires....]

[Machete blinks her one eye, then drifts over to inspect Ruby through the 'Gear. After a couple seconds of staring, she does a slow twirl. Ain't got no strings to hold her down.]

[I hope your eardrums are sturdy Dave, because you're getting blasted with the sound of teenage girl squealing.]

That's so cool!! Are there more like that? Are they all swords, or are there more weapons??? Can any of them transform?!

[Dave actually leans away from his Pokégear, visibly startled. Holy shit, girl's got some pipes on her.]

Uh, I mean I think her line's all swords? I don't know if there are other Pokémon who're weapons, but my guess is probably she evolves into a bigger sword.

[Close, Dave, but, well. Guess he'll find out later.]

Bigger swords are cool too! You gotta show me when she grows up, okay? Or if you find anything else cool like her!!

[s...sorry dave, she can get a little carried way when she's excited. Be glad she's not vibrating all over the place...?]

You know, Penny has one, too. I bet hers evolves before mine does.

[Dave has no illusions about where he ranks on the scale of badass within his squad. None whatsoever.]
