First Petal [Video/action for New Bark Town]
[There's a bit of a clatter when the video turns on, and the view is a bit skewed; a sideways shot of the very same house all non-Rockets wake up in. A pair of black and red boots can be seen pacing back and forth, their owner reaching down and grabbing a few other things that had spilled from their bag, along with the 'gear.]
Miss, I don't-- [The owner of the fear - a young girl it seems - halts as "Mom" continues to drone on with her usual spiel, a slight whine in her voice as she impatiently bounces on the balls of her feet.]
Miss, I really don't think you-- I mean, I really appreciate this, I guess!! But you're not really... [Sigh. She's not really listening is she? Guess she has no choice...]
I'msorryIreallyamthankfulbutIgottagobye!
[The words rush out all in one breath, and with a flurry of footsteps, the girl is gone.
... Without her Pokegear.
Luckily, a moment later a Houndour appears, grabbing the device in its mouth and running off. The camera jostles around a bit but stops soon enough, with the girl - dressed all in red and black, wrapped in a hooded red cape, and black hair cut short - finally in full view.]
What- yikes!
[She jumps back, shock on her face and a small bit of fear in her eyes. After a moment, though, she leans a little closer.]
You... you're not a Grimm, are you?
[A muffled bark comes from the Houndour holding the gear, and it's only then that the girl notices the device and quickly grabs it. After giving it a quick once-over to determine what exactly it is, she turns it in what she hopes is the right direction...!]
Uh... mayday, mayday! SOS! Some other distress call! .... Help? Geez, I don't know what I should be saying here...
[FOCUS. Okay. Breathe in, breathe out.]
T-This is Ruby Rose, leader of Team RWBY, and I have no idea where I am! This, uh... this isn't Vale, is it?
[As her adrenaline starts to fade, Ruby's shoulders slump.]
I... I gotta get back. Like, right now! There are a whole lot of people that need help...

[Ruby nearly drops her gear as she spins around, reaching behind her and looking more than a bit startled when she grabs only air. She turns around again, spinning every which way, looking just a little panicked when she finishes.]
Crescent Rose!! Someone took it!
[And Penny's sword too...! Even with Penny alive and okay, the idea of losing a piece of her... that hurts almost as much as losing Crescent Rose.]
Re: [video]
Ruby! It's okay, I promise!
[She had been told that she'd taken her own arrival astonishingly well, and she's starting to see what that meant.]
It's okay. Crescent Rose will be right where you left it when you get back! It's just- this place really doesn't like weapons, for some reason. No one has any, just the Pokémon. They're all anyone has to fight with.
[She brightens up for just a second, remembering something important that had been lost in everything else.]
Um, you won't be able to use your Semblance, either. Whatever brings people here takes away any special powers until you leave.
[She sounds WAY TOO cheerful for that-]
And it turns everyone into a human when they arrive. I mean, if there were anyone that. You know. Wasn't, before.
... But wait what?!]
It can... turn everyone human?
[Another pause as Ruby tries to figure out how to proceed with this. She isn't very subtle - the total opposite, really - but she takes promises to friends very seriously. Even after... what happened in the arena... Ruby's not just going to casually mention Penny's secret without her permission!]
Is that... a good thing?
[Maybe not the best way to do it, but she tried! And she really hopes Penny will pick up on it...]
Re: [video]
[They are the MOST subtle, what are you talking about.]
...To most people, anyway. Some people aren't that happy with it. I think it's to make sure people rely on the Pokémon more?
[It's about as subtle as these two can get, so that's gotta count for something!]
Makes sense, I guess... it's still a little weird, but it's not bad weird. [A pause, then a huff.] It's gunna be weird getting used to not moving so fast.
Re: [video]
[And a hiccup. NOBODY SUSPECTS A THING.]
[Did you know foods have a flavor, Ruby.][video]
They probably just need to ask.
[Just wait till you try chocolate chip cookies, Penny...!]
Re: [video]
[Please get her to eat some real food, Ruby. She's not actually living entirely off junk food, but some days it's a close thing. Fresh cookies would be a step up.]
And I bet those people would love showing their friends places like Sprout Tower and the Ruins of Alph.
[And she manages to catch herself before getting too deep into these hypothetical phrasings.]
Oh, and I can show you the Violet Gym! Has anyone explained the gyms and badges yet?
[One would think that Ruby would be a total junk food addict, and while it's not... entirely inaccurate... she also has to keep herself fit and healthy enough to be a Huntress. So she'll be happy to show Penny all the good non-junky stuff!!]
... I don't know what any of those things are. But if that tower and the ruins are cool places, that'd be fun to check out!
So what's this gym thing?
Re: [video]
[Even though everyone else seems to emphasize type diversity. Maybe there's a tactical advantage to limiting your types, but she can't see it.]
Each gym has a leader, they're supposed to be some of the strongest trainers in the world! You're allowed to challenge them with your own Pokémon, and if yoh win you get a badge to prove it!
[She digs offscreeb for a second before producing a Zephyr Badge and holding it up with pride.]
There's eight gyms here in Johto, and eight more in another place called Kanto, and it's supposed to be a big challenge to beat all of them!
That sounds so cool!! I totally have to try this out... can you show me where you got that one?
Re: [video]
[She tucks the badge back into an offscreen pocket.]
The leader is a man named Faulkner, he specializes in birds and flying Pokémon. Luckily my starter Pokémon is an electric type, they have an advantage over flying types.
Floo-ee!
[The Floette looks a bit indignant.]
Of course you were a big help too! Oh-!
[Penny takes a second to gently cup her Floette in one hand, bringing it center-screen.]
I forgot to introduce you! Ruby, this is Ruby.
....I named her after you.
[And... aw, Ruby's getting a case of the fuzzies right now, that Penny was willing to do that...]
It's nice to meet you, mini-Ruby!
Re: [video]
She's a Fairy-type. They're supposed to be really strong against Dragons. And since her flower is red, like your Semblance...
[Penny gives a little shrug, grinning.]
I thought it fit. And she's gotten really strong since I caught her!
[Ruby can't help but laugh. But not in a mocking way!]
Wow, that I'd like to see!
Re: [video]
[Plus MiniRuby has at least ten levels on Streex, even if the Garchomp took orders properly. Not a very sporting match.]
I do know she's really strong against Dark types, though!
[A whine comes from off-screen. Looks like Ruby's poor Dark/Fire pop doesn't like its weakness being praised...!]
Oh no, I'm sorry Drei...!
Re: [video]
[That pup is way too cute for something that looks so much like a Grimm, even off-screen.]
A lot of type matchups just seem strange. Like Fairies are also weak to Steel types, and Poison is weak to Psychic. I mean, you'd think lots of things would be weak to POISON, right? Some are really obvious though, like Ice is weak to Fire and Fire is weak to Water.
