First Petal [Video/action for New Bark Town]

[There's a bit of a clatter when the video turns on, and the view is a bit skewed; a sideways shot of the very same house all non-Rockets wake up in. A pair of black and red boots can be seen pacing back and forth, their owner reaching down and grabbing a few other things that had spilled from their bag, along with the 'gear.]

Miss, I don't-- [The owner of the fear - a young girl it seems - halts as "Mom" continues to drone on with her usual spiel, a slight whine in her voice as she impatiently bounces on the balls of her feet.]

Miss, I really don't think you-- I mean, I really appreciate this, I guess!! But you're not really... [Sigh. She's not really listening is she? Guess she has no choice...]

[The words rush out all in one breath, and with a flurry of footsteps, the girl is gone.

... Without her Pokegear.

Luckily, a moment later a Houndour appears, grabbing the device in its mouth and running off. The camera jostles around a bit but stops soon enough, with the girl - dressed all in red and black, wrapped in a hooded red cape, and black hair cut short - finally in full view.]

What- yikes!

[She jumps back, shock on her face and a small bit of fear in her eyes. After a moment, though, she leans a little closer.]

You... you're not a Grimm, are you?

[A muffled bark comes from the Houndour holding the gear, and it's only then that the girl notices the device and quickly grabs it. After giving it a quick once-over to determine what exactly it is, she turns it in what she hopes is the right direction...!]

Uh... mayday, mayday! SOS! Some other distress call! .... Help? Geez, I don't know what I should be saying here...

[FOCUS. Okay. Breathe in, breathe out.]

T-This is Ruby Rose, leader of Team RWBY, and I have no idea where I am! This, uh... this isn't Vale, is it?

[As her adrenaline starts to fade, Ruby's shoulders slump.]

I... I gotta get back. Like, right now! There are a whole lot of people that need help...

He was walking just fine when I saw him last. [She isn't even quite angry yet. It's a hard thing to process; she thought they were friends. Him and Emerald...] I think... I think I know what happened. It's not just him, it's Emerald too. Whatever they did... I think it's the same thing that happened with Yang.

[A pause, and she takes a deep breath. It feels wrong, talking like this about someone she thought of as a friend. Even if they hurt her and her friends and family so bad....]

I talked to Velvet before the last fight. She told me that during the doubles match, Coco hallucinated too, like Yang did. Something about how Yatsuhashi was there even though he was already knocked out. I didn't even think about it, but right before the last singles match started, Emerald was in the stands, even though we thought she went off with Mercury...

I think she did something to all three of them. Coco, Yang, Pyrrha... when I tried to check it out, Mercury was there. Walking just fine. I couldn't get away from him until...

[Until it was too late.]

I knew something had to be going on behind the scenes. Yang would never have attacked someone unprovoked! She isn't the kind of person who hits someone after they're down.

[It might not feel right for Ruby to talk about it, but it's important to get the information out there.]

They should have never been allowed to go into a higher round after what happened to Coco. Why didn't they look into it then? It would have...

[She shakes her head. It was easy enough for Emerald and Mercury to stay around Beacon even after they were supposed to have left. It wouldn't necessarily have changed anything.]

...her Semblance? She never mentioned what it was to any of us, so...

Maybe it was because they were both doing it in a match the first time that nobody caught it? You can't really be thrown out just for using your Semblance.

[Ruby no, it almost sounds like you're defending them...]

But can someone's Semblance really do that? Just... mess with people's heads?

It's possible, but still. Coco's not the kind of person that would lie about something like that, so you would think that alone would be enough to look into.

[She shakes her head.]

If Blake's can make shadow clones and mine can - in theory - summon creatures, I don't see why not.

It just seems... I dunno. Wrong, somehow.

[.....]

Wait, what? Summoning??? Weiss, that's so cool, why didn't you tell us about that?!

More wrong than what happened to everyone after that? I don't think so.

[She looks down for a long minute.]

I haven't - I'm not even close to mastering summoning. I didn't want to talk about it until I was positive I could demonstrate it.

Winter tried coaching me when she visited Beacon, but that didn't go well.

Well, you'll definitely get the hang of it now! Or, uh... whenever we get home and get things under control.

[Ruby puffs up a bit; time to go into Leader Mode!!]

I appreciate that you have that much faith in me, Ruby. I really do, and I know all of you have my back.

[She manages a tiny smile, but frowns again almost immediately.]

My Semblance is hereditary - it's passed down through the Schnee bloodline. The glyphs, the time dilation, the summoning. If my own sister couldn't figure out what it would take for me to master summoning...

... Well. Sisters can't mesh well with everything. Look at me and Yang. We get along great and we can agree on most things, but...[Ruby just shrugs.] Nothing's perfect.

Your sister's away with the Atlas military a lot, right? Maybe she cracked the secret because she was out in the world, with tons of different people. Maybe that's what you need, too.

I don't expect perfection. I just...

That's right. She's away most of the time. Until she visited, I hadn't seen Winter since before leaving for Beacon. She said something a lot like what you just did, that I needed to travel and learn, so maybe you're both right.

[See?? Ruby may be a dope sometimes, but she's a dope who can be trusted to know what's up!!]

You're admitting I'm right?? Whoa, I should've been recording this!

[... okay no, still mostly a dope.]

... Kind of a funny name. I think I'm gunna call him Drei, instead!

[cue penguin popping out of Pokeball]

Oh, right! Uh...

[She looks around, perks up, then lets out a whistle.]

Hey, Drei! C'mere, boy!

[A second later, the pup bounds into sight, fresh from chasing around a flock of pidgey. It's... probably a little unsettling, seeing the Grimm-like bone mask on his head, and the bone on his back, but the happy panting and yips as he curiously sniffs at Weiss and Aster are enough to hopefully ease any worries!}

...is that a PokeGrimm?

[Because that sure looks like a PokeGrimm. At least it seems friendly, though. Aster doesn't seem alarmed, and Weiss is trying not to be.]

Yeah. Pretty weird, huh?

[Ruby doesn't blame Weiss for looking nervous. And honestly, she still feels a bit nervous too. But the pup hasn't done anything bad so far...]

But he hasn't tried to hurt anyone yet, so I think that's a good sign...!

Aster seems to like him, and she's...

[...difficult...]

...picky about who she likes. I think she would know if something was off.

[Gee, doesn't that sound familiar...]

She's pretty cool! What kind of pokemon is she?

She's a Piplup. I don't know why they can't call a penguin a penguin, but it's a cute name.

Well, penguins aren't normally blue, are they? Maybe they gotta give it a new name to make sure people know they're different from regular penguins!

[... Though RUby hasn't seen any normal animals since she woke up, so she's starting to wonder if there are any...]
